Guess who’s back?

Back again.

Ammi’s back.

Tell a friend.

(I feel compelled to say this is an Eminem reference and not a sad attempt at a poem)

Hi Ammis and friends!

It’s been 3 months since our last letter. Life has been LIFE-ing. But since we last met in your inbox, we’ve celebrated a few milestones here at ammi.ai HQ:

  • My littlest one turned one 🥲

  • My eldest lost 3 teeth!

  • My middlest…hm…let me check my notes…this is awkward, no updates
(middle child joke, which is allowed because I am a rehabilitating middle child)

We have a lot to catch up on! Recent developments in the AI world have catapulted me back into your inbox with a strong sense of duty, a little urgency, and also, I just missed y’all!

In today’s ammi.ai, you’ll discover:

Let’s grow! 🌿

REPLAY: Catalyzing Compassion in the AI Conversation

If you missed our conversation with Dr. Cornelia C. Walther in September, you can watch the replay here! I think about this conversation almost every day. It has really shaped how I view AI literacy: by keeping humans and human intelligence at the center.

I’ll be sharing more about our conversation, but in the meantime, check out the recording here.

REPLAY: 4 Ways Mothers Can Shape the AI Conversation

Last month, I had an absolutely lovely conversation with Lois Janos of Work Smarter with AI, who shared her journey from being a self-described technophobe to empowering women, mothers, and businesses in the UK with AI literacy and AI fluency training. She shared really practical ways that any mom can join the AI conversation!

AI to make quick presentations

Today’s apple: Gamma

Ammis and friends regularly ask me for AI tool recommendations. One of the most common questions I get is, "Are there any AI tools that can help me make a slide deck or a presentation?"

Gamma is your girl.

You can enter an outline, notes, or an existing presentation, and Gamma can convert it into a web page, a presentation deck, or a social media carousel. You have the flexibility to modify the theme, visuals, formatting, and content.

Of course, you don't have as much flexibility as if you were to build a slideshow from scratch in PowerPoint or using a tool like Canva. Still, it’s great for prototyping or for easily conveying information visually.

Use my referral link below for 200 Gamma credits!

⚠️ Ammis and friends: Always check privacy policies and verify any AI-generated health, safety, or education advice with trusted human experts. This is not an ad or official endorsement. AI tools evolve rapidly—features and safety may change. Mind your pics, mind your files, mind your deets, and stay safe out there, y’all!

Are your kids watching AI Slop?

Recently, I saw an older adult co-watching YouTube with my child. Some of my kids' favorite videos are about shapes, so the algorithm suggested similar videos.

One video caught my eye—it was clearly generated by AI. It featured big, bubble-like letters, a generic song, and typical AI-style animation, reminiscent of Pixar.

It got problematic pretty fast.

AI-generated videos aren't inherently bad, but this one had discrepancies. The video described shapes in a song while showing kids drawing or playing with those shapes.

A kid going down a slide is described as a triangle with 3 pointy corners.

For older kids who are familiar with their shapes, this might be a fun challenge. But for younger kids learning shapes, it could be confusing.

What does this mean for Ammis?

This video is what I'd call AI Slop—content with little human oversight that might be riddled with inaccurate information, or just be plain bad. Parents or grandparents might think it's educational without realizing the errors.

I pointed out more inconsistencies: at one point, the boy had a ponytail, and puzzle pieces were oddly shaped.

Even if this seems low-stakes, think about the effects.

If your child repeatedly watches and internalizes incorrect information about shapes, it becomes a literacy issue they carry into the future. Being vigilant about AI-generated content in one area helps protect us in all areas, especially important ones like health decisions.

As a health education specialist, this matters to me. It's crucial to detect AI-generated content and assess its quality to avoid misinformation, especially in health-related areas. There are deep fakes of doctors selling supplements, making this issue very real.

You might be able to spot slop easily, but our kids, or our parents, may need help strengthening their AI-detection muscles.

Here’s a quick checklist to spot the Slop! (made using Gamma)

🍉 A quick guide to how I’m using AI for Black Friday shopping:

  1. Make a round around your home and note down items for your shopping list. This is actually like reverse window shopping, it’s fun!

    1. Messy coat closet > coat closet organizer goes on the list

    2. Messy pantry > pantry organizers go on the list

    3. Messy— okay, now I’m just exposing myself, but you get the gist….clothes, tech, appliances, books, specialty items, bulk buys, can all go on the list

  2. Use Perplexity.ai, an AI-powered search tool, to research ‘best black friday deals’ for a given item. You can do this individually or in bulk. Perplexity synthesizes good deals from around the web, making it easy to shop till you drop 🙂
