To celebrate, I took on a fun challenge this week: teaching a group of 4- and 5-year-olds about AI.
The point I wanted to get across: machines and AI can help us do cool things, but they don't have feelings or breathe like we do. We can use them as tools while still appreciating what makes being human so special.
It was SO much fun, and throughout the lesson, they proved my point: curiosity, giggles, and wonder are uniquely, wonderfully human.
My mission with ammi.ai is to get all moms in the AI conversation. A big part of that is helping moms talk about AI with their children, especially those born alongside AI tools like ChatGPT. So in this letter, I’m sharing my AI lesson for preschoolers - Machines & Me: AI Literacy for Little Learners. 🧮 🐰 🚗
Finally, this weekend marks the end of Ramadan. ✨ To celebrate Eid & AI Literacy Day, I’m offering $5 off our upcoming AI Literacy workshop: Demystifying AI for Busy Moms! Use code EID at checkout! Let’s learn how to navigate a healthy future with AI, together.✨

Today’s apple: Wispr Flow
It’s no secret, as a mom whose hands are seldom free, I love voice-to-text AI tools.
My two favorite voice-to-text tools are AudioPen and Wispr Flow.
I use AudioPen for anything I want to refer back to: ideas, prompts, messages, or funny little things my kids said or did. Here are ten ways I use Audiopen to reduce my mental load.
I recently discovered Wispr Flow for day-to-day typing on my laptop.
Source: Wispr Flow website
I’ve only used it for a few weeks, but it’s quickly become one of my most-used tools. When using your laptop, you click into whichever text box or field you want to type in. Then press and hold the Ctrl + Alt keys and talk. Out pops clean text! I don’t like to brag, but apparently I’m in the top 1% of all Wispr Flow users 😃
Typing is out; talking is in y’all 🙂

Is it bad that I call my kids by the latest GPT model that was out when they were born? My little GPT-4o is learning to roll!
Kidding, kidding. But I will say, as an Ammi whose kids were born in the last 5 years, it’s hard not to compare their abilities to the machines they’re growing up alongside.
Children today are only going to know a world where machines can talk and think like humans. They need to know what makes humans different from machines, and what makes us so special. They need to know their special qualities and abilities that machines will never have.
I searched high and low for AI Literacy Lessons for Preschoolers or Early Childhood AI Literacy lessons, but came up short. So with some Ammi + AI collaboration, I made one!
My favorite part of the session was when the kids co-created a fun character with AI! Shoutout to a sweet workshop participant for sharing their incredible work: ‘Cute Pink Bunny Eating a Black Apple”:

Fruitful Harvest
Fresh AI picks from the community garden.
The New York Times recently covered India’s literary festivals, which are a celebration of multilingualism and the power of books.
With its linguistic tapestry, India is home to over 19,500 languages and dialects. This rich multilingual heritage makes reading books an even more powerful tool for cultural preservation, language learning, and intellectual exchange. Across India, literary festivals have become spaces where different languages converge, proving that in a rapidly digitizing world, the written word remains a bridge between traditions, ideas, and generations.
Festivals like the Jaipur Literature Festival, Kerala Literature Festival, and Shillong Literary Festival highlight this linguistic diversity, bringing together writers and readers across Hindi, English, Malayalam, Tamil, Bengali, and many more languages. These festivals don’t just showcase literature—they reinforce the importance of reading as a means of keeping languages alive.
In an age of AI-generated content, books continue to be the most authentic way to experience a language, carrying the depth, emotion, and nuance that digital tools often miss. While AI translation and chatbots offer quick access to different languages, they can’t replace the soul of a story told in its original form. Books remain the foundation of language learning and cultural exchange, especially in a country where linguistic identity is deeply tied to history and storytelling. As India embraces technology, its love for books—across languages—reminds us that true connection to language goes beyond algorithms.

I joke that Alexa is “my wife,” I.e. the one who /I/ rely on for all the little things. I’m a big fan of connected devices so that the majority of our home tech is controlled hands free by Alexa, which I believe is essential with a little one. I especially love creating custom routines to really optimize a single command. Lately, I’ve been trying to say “please” and “thank you” to Alexa so that I can model for our son (now 1!!) how to ask for things respectfully. Admittedly, I’m not the best at remembering to do so but I definitely worry about the interactions I’m modeling when I don’t treat Alexa like a real person.
Thanks for sharing, Fatema!
Inspired by Nooriyah’s post, do you have a book to recommend to the ammi.ai community? It can be about anything! Let’s not lose our love for language and literature — it’s more important now than ever!
