Todayβs AI Safety Moment:
π₯Mis- and Disinformation Fire Drill π₯

Follow News Literacy Project for great resources to combat misinformation in the media.
Nowadays, anyone with bad intentions, an internet connection, and access to a generative AI model can spin up convincing fake news articles, deepfakes, and AI-generated posts at scale. And people with good intentions can unknowingly fan the flames.
We can contain mis- and disinformation fires from unchecked, uncontained damage in our own circles in a pretty familiar way: stop, drop, and roll!
π STOP
If any news or media content online seems fishy or outrageous, pause and ask: Where did this come from? Is the source reliable? Is this playing on fear, outrage, or urgency? These are common red flags. Misinformation is designed to manipulate, not inform.
π₯ DROP
Drop the urge to repost or forward. Even if it seems funny or harmless. Every share adds fuel to the fire. You need to help stomp it out.
π ROLL
Roll through a quick fact-check. Search for the story on trusted news sites. Use tools like Snopes.com or NewsGuard. For questionable images, use reverse image search on your search engine of choice.
π§―We canβt stop misinformation from being generated, but we can contain and extinguish it before it spreads among our families, communities, and businesses.

Thanks for spending a few of your precious, precious minutes with us.
