I recently wrapped an incredibly enriching 8-week course on AI Governance as part of a live global cohort with the AI Safety Collab. I was the only American in my group, learning alongside AI safety enthusiasts from Nigeria, Lebanon, India, the UK, Malta, and Armenia.
During one of our sessions, my coursemate joked,
“America’s AI policy seems to be, ‘I don’t care if I die by AI, as long as it’s made in the USA.’”
I’ve been laugh-crying about it ever since.
Throughout the course, we explored the risks of increasingly advanced AI systems, ideas for addressing those risks through standards and regulation, and how different countries are approaching AI governance. There’s still so much uncertainty and debate in this space, but one thing became clear: a lot of power still lies with the companies building these tools and with governments whose interests don’t always align with the needs of everyday people.
For me, this course validated a belief I’ve had for a while now. If we want a healthy future with AI, we need a grassroots approach. We need to bring as many people as possible into the conversation.
That belief is what inspired my final project for the course: AI Safety Moments.
And today, I’m excited to finally share them with you.
What are AI Safety Moments?
This project is a library of 50+ short, sweet, and simple AI safety topics with explanations and insights to help anyone weave them into the fabric of their life - a parent, a teacher, a corporate professional, a community organization leader.
The goal is for everyone to start their workplace meeting, community gathering, shift, or dinner table conversation with AI safety in mind. This is an effort to foster AI safety conversations among everyday people.

I studied chemical engineering in Houston, Texas - the “Energy Capital of the World.
Back in my engineering classes and during my internships in the Oil & Gas industry, it was common to start every meeting with a quick “Safety Moment.” Just a short 5-minute talk on a simple safety topic, usually with a slide to go along with it.
I found safety moments so simple, practical, and straightforward. And they usually stood in stark contrast to the complexity or intensity of whatever else was going to be presented or discussed in that class or meeting.
