Hi there.
I am realizing that the last several newsletters have been animal-themed. I’m cool with it as long as you’re cool with it.
Cool? Cool. Cool!
Let’s grow!

Apple Sauce
The ‘sauce’ - or overview - on AI tools you may find useful.
Today’s apple: Hype Mama
Who do we go to when we need a little pick-me-up? Our mothers!
Hype Mama is an AI mama who is here to hype you up!
Hype Mama to share words of encouragement
The Hype Mama app allows users to input whatever’s going on with them - whether positive or negative - that they might need encouragement for.
An AI language model instructed to act like a warm and caring mama will offer words of encouragement. An AI image model will generate a nice, encouraging picture to lift the user’s spirits.

Hype Mama at your service!

Fun fact: I made this app! Yup, Hype Mama is brought to you fresh from the ammi.ai garden. I used a site called partyrock.aws to make it.
Disclaimer: you must make a free account using existing Google, Apple, or Amazon credentials to use the app.
During the sign up process, you can see which data that will be shared from your account to partyrock.aws.
If you’re cool with that, then enjoy Hype Mama!

AI-phabet Soup of the Day: LLM, or Large Language Models
Last week, we dug into the letters in ChatGPT, one of the most popular internet applications.
ChatGPT is powered by GPT, an artificial intelligence model that can understand, process, and generate human language. This kind of AI model is known as a Large Language Model, or LLM, and GPT is among several notable LLMs.
But before we get into that, a quick note about llamas!

Don’t worry, I’ll explain!

Llamas are having their AI moment
In the natural world, scientists estimate that llamas originated in the central plains of North America 40-50 million years ago.
In the parenting world, llamas trotted onto the scene in 2005 with the release of the beloved children’s book, Llama Llama Red Pajama, and have been basking in superstardom ever since. Watch a great rendition of the book in the next section.
In the AI world, finally, llamas are having their moment. It’s all thanks to the fortuitous spelling of their name: LLaMa. Many notable LLMs are inspired by llamas and their livestock friends:
LLaMa, released February 2023, by Meta (Facebook)
Vicuna, released March 2023, by LMSYS (UC Berkeley + other institutions)
Alpaca, released March 2023, by Stanford University
Dolly, named after a famous cloned sheep, released March 2023, by Databricks
What makes LLMs different from each other?
Large Language Models (LLMs) can be different from each other based on a few factors:
Training Data: The information that LLMs learn from can vary. Some learn from a wide range of topics on the internet, while others may focus on specific types of text, like scientific research papers, for example.
Size and Complexity: LLMs come in different sizes. Bigger models can understand language more deeply but need more power to run.
Purpose and Training: LLMs are trained for different uses. Some are better at answering questions, others at translating languages or writing creatively.
These attributes help determine what each LLM is best at and how it is used.
What can LLMs be used for?
LLMs are great for text in, text out tasks including:
Conversation: here’s a question, greeting, or comment, respond to it.
Summarization: here’s a very long blog post, summarize it.
Content generation: here’s a message, write an email to convey it.
LLMs are great at processing and generating natural language, but what about image generation or audio generation? There’s AI for that, too. But we'll save those letters for another meal 🙂
