Well, it finally happened this week.
The moment I’ve been anticipating.
“Hey Google, turn the TV off,” I instructed my Google Home smart speaker.
My toddler has heard me ask Google all sorts of things, and almost always, she has seen and heard Google comply. I wondered when she’d finally ask me about this highly obedient, invisible presence.
“Ammi, what’s Google?”
There we go. I finally have to introduce her to the technology that will be our companion - for better or worse - for the foreseeable future.
“Beta, Google is a computer. It’s a machine that can understand us, talk to us, and help us do things.”
“Ammi, are you a computer?”
“No, I’m a human and so are you. We are real, and we have skin, bones, muscles, and hair. And a heart.”
“Oh.”
And I watched my little human’s wide eyes skirt around, processing what I just told her until she slowly drifted to sleep.

Hype Mama to share words of encouragement
The Hype Mama app allows users to input whatever’s going on with them - whether positive or negative - that they might need encouragement for.
An AI language model instructed to act like a warm and caring mama will offer words of encouragement. An AI image model will generate a nice, encouraging picture to lift the user’s spirits.
Friends have used Hype Mama to quell anxieties, offer words of encouragement for big events, and celebrate accomplishments big and small.
